Wurzburg

The centre of the Franconia wine region this Bavarian city has attracted visitors for years thanks to its impressive baroque and rococo architecture, particular the 18th-century Residenz palace which was inspired by the Palace of Versailles, and being the start of the Romantic Road. The mighty Marienberg Fortress has looked over the Main river for five centuries and is linked to the beautiful Altstadt (Old Town) by the pretty Old Main Bridge – a medieval crossing dotted with statues of saints, similar to the famous Charles bridge in Prague.
