Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar is the capital of Mongolia and at over three million people, is home to over half of the country’s population. The city is surrounded by one of the oldest nature reserves in the world, which has been protected by law since the 18th century, and is a great base to venture out to the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and the huge Genghis Khan statue nearby. The city is still home to a number of beautiful wooden Buddhist Temples from the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan, home to Mongolia’s eighth Living Buddha and spared destruction by the Russians and turned into a museum, is a must see.
