Naples
Capital of the Campania region and originally named Neapolis by the Greeks, meaning "new city," Naples is an incredibly historic destination with the UNESCO cathedral and highest number of churches in the world. A visit to Naples would be incomplete without indulging in pizza (Naples is its birthplace!) and exploring the 12th century Castel Sant ‘Elmo, a fortified citadel with the highest number of churches in the world.
Sorrento
With a jaw-dropping location overlooking the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius visible in the distance, the town of Sorrento is a beautiful resort, surrounded by olive and lemon groves and offering easy access to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, and Pompeii. Sorrento epitomizes holiday bliss in its civility and beauty. The coastal city overlooks the sparkling sea, with a smaller and larger marina (Piccola and Grande) perfect for summertime strolling or swimming. Home to a wealth of history, unearth Sorrento’s Romanesque Cathedral in the Old City or visit the Museum Correale, located in a splendid peak villa.
Positano
"It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone." So wrote John Steinbeck about his visit to a sleepy fishing village on the Amalfi Coast, thus sealing Positano’s fate as an exclusive resort that has inspired novels, songs, and every visitor since. Dramatically perched on a hill leading down to the Mediterranean, Positano is full of fabulous architecture and provides spectacular views from the bright white houses to the beautifully colored lemon and orange groves throughout the town. Explore the ancient Roman Villas and defensive towers built in the sixteenth century or relax on Navy beach.
Ravello
Sitting high above the shoreline, Ravello is a peaceful and stunning resort commanding spectacular views over the Amalfi Coast. Founded in the 5th century as a place of shelter from the Barbarian invasions, Ravello’s impressive villas, palazzos and religious architecture have inspired visitors from Richard Wagner to Virginia Woolf. Ravello offers a peaceful haven from the crowds with idyllic gardens and other green spaces perfect for sunbathing and soaking up the scenery. Visit the gardens at the Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo or head to Vescovado Square, where you will find the Arabic inspired Cathedral, founded in 1086.
Capri
A rugged island in the deep blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the warm climes and spectacular scenery of Capri have made it a holiday hot spot since Roman times. Here you’ll find remnants of Roman villas, Villa Jovis being the largest, nestled alongside glamorous squares where Champagne flows and local seafood abounds. Retreat from the glitz with a tranquil sail to the Grotta Azzurra, a sea cave that is beautifully illuminated by dappled sunlight passing through an underwater hole in the rock. Be sure to take a funicular up to Anacapri from the Marina Grande for coffee, too. Take the train to explore the Amalfi Coast with a number of fantastic trips including the Amalfi Coast Via the Alps, Rome and Sorrento or Rome, Florence and the Amalfi Coast. There's no better way to discover this stunning corner of Italy!
